An outdoor wooden deck is a great place for your children to play

Maintaining your Wooden Decking

An outdoor wooden deck is a great place for your children to play on while you socialise with friends over a barbeque. But sadly, your wooden deck can depreciate quickly if not maintained properly. Natural elements such as sunlight and rain can play a part at reducing the quality and life of your deck not to mention all the foot traffic it receives. Nothing lasts forever at with great care you can certainly add many years on to your deck by maintaining it properly. Below is a short guide on how you can look after your wooden decking:
1. Keep the surface clean: It is important to keep dirt off your deck such as leaves. A regular sweep will help prevent dirt from producing permanent marks
2. Keep moisture off your deck: Try not to allow large quantities of water puddles and snow to sit for long periods of time.
3. Have your deck sealed professionally: Having your wooden deck sealed professionally ensured it is done properly. Sealing is very important as it protects your deck from the harsh sun and rain. When professionally done, you will only need to seal your deck once every 3 years.
4. Clean under furniture and pot plants: Ensure you clean underneath all furniture and pot plants regularly to remove any trapped dirt which can stain your deck.
5. Don’t paint your deck: If you paint your deck with paint or solid stain, you are in for a lot of maintenance to upkeep the wooden deck. Due to weather conditions and a lot of foot traffic, the paint will peel. You would need to sand down the entire deck to paint it again. Rather go for oil staining which lasts longer and will fade away slowly.
